ABOUT CAMERA OBSCURA

Camera Obscura is an immersive VR puzzle game inspired by Hitchcock's "Rear Window." In this game, players must solve a crime in a neighboring apartment. Players use a camera to photograph suspects, gather crucial evidence, and piece together the mystery by arranging their findings on an evidence board

I pitched the concept for Camera Obscura, and out of out of more than 70 pitches, this idea was selected for funding and production. Initially, we used a vintage Minolta camera to control the game, but as we explored different options, we ultimately realized that VR technology would create a more immersive experience. To bring our vision to life, we designed and built a 3D-printed camera with a vintage appearance that could be placed over the VR headset.

ABOUT MY ROLE
  • Designed and wrote compelling narrative that revolved around the collection of evidence through the use of our Alt-Controller Camera.

  • Wrote detailed character lore, item description, evidence board information, and developed world flavor. Directed Motion Capture.

  • Created a well-balanced core gameplay loop that integrated both puzzles and action elements.

  • Designed narrative focused levels in engine.

  • Designed gameplay mechanics for evidence gathering that would require players to utilize the camera controller and evidence board.

  • Collaborated with artists to design a visually appealing camera UI, characters, evidence, evidence board, and more.

  • Directed motion capture for animations of the game.

  • Designed puzzles that would challenge players to solve the mystery by collecting evidence with their Camera Alt Controller.
